Alphabet Inc, Google’s parent company, is creating a chatbot service called Bard, which will be powered artificial intelligence (AI). This is a response to Microsoft Corporation’s competition to lead a new generation of technology. The company stated that Bard will first be tested by a few testers before it is made available to the public in the coming weeks.

Bard is built on top Google’s Lamda large language model. One of its engineers described it as being so human-like that it responded in a way that he believed it was “sentient”. The tech giant also announced the addition of new AI technologies in its existing search engine, along with Bard.

Sundar Pichai, Google CEO, stated in a blog post that he wants Google’s artificial intelligence services (AI) to be “bold, responsible.” He will initially use a lighter version of Lamda which requires less power. Pichai did not explain why Bard would not be allowed to distribute anything that is harmful or abusive.

Google’s announcement comes after widespread rumors that Microsoft plans to integrate ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence chatbot, into its Bing search engine. This revelation comes after the software giant made a large investment in OpenAI, the company responsible for the ever-growing ChatGPT.

ChatGPT is currently free to use, but the company incurs a small cost each time someone uses it. OpenAI recently announced that it will offer a subscription model to go along with its free access. The AI chatbot can answer questions based upon information it gleaned from the Internet in 2021 when it was first made operational.
OpenAI has managed to make a niche in the AI sector. Despite having the best minds, capital bandwidth, and cutting-edge tech available to it, Google does not have the best minds. It is uncertain whether ChatGPT and Google’s Bard will be the 21st century’s David or Goliath.
