The University Of California Berkeley Ends Stadium Naming Agreement With FTX
The University of California Berkeley has ended its naming rights agreement for its football stadium with FTX. It was signed in August 2021 by FTX and the University of Berkeley’s Cal Athletics soccer team (California). It had a value of $17.5million and full crypto payments. This was also FTX’s first sports partnership with a university. The exchange will purchase the naming rights to California Memorial Stadium and transform it into FTX Field. Over the past two years, FTX has been very accommodating to sports-related partnerships. Nevertheless, FTX’s promotion partner repeatedly decided to end the sponsorship contract after the bankruptcy announcement. This included a $135 million Miami Heat basketball naming right deal for the next 19 years. Coincu reported that TSM, an e-sports company, has also removed the FTX symbol and suspended the $210 million contract.
