Meta Takes a Leaf from Elon Musk’s Twitter and Announces a New Feature
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, has announced the launch of a premium verification service that will grant profiles a blue badge. The membership can be purchased online for $11.99 per monthly, while it is $14.99 per for iOS platforms.
Meta’s new verification program
In an Instagram update, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO and founder of Meta, stated that users who have “Meta Verified Accounts” will receive a verified badge, better visibility across the platforms, priority customer service, and other benefits. The service will be available to users in Australia and New Zealand starting this week. It’s expected to expand to other countries “soon.”

Meta Copying Elon Musk’s Tweets?
Users who sign up for the service receive stickers that can be used in Stories and Reels. Users will also receive 100 stars each month, which are digital currency that can help tip content creators on Facebook. Meta states that users will be able to update their profile name and username, or their date of birth, without having to reapply for a Meta Verified subscription. Companies are not able to apply for a Meta verified badge at this moment.
It is difficult to ignore the similarities between Meta’s new paid tick verification and Twitter Blue, which Elon Musk only recently introduced. This is a clear ripoff of strategy, something Meta has been accused of in the past. The Meta team appears to be closely watching their competition to see how it develops.
