Charles Gasparino, a media personality, has criticized David Boies (a well-known American attorney) for defending the FTX victims. Gasparino claimed that the representation is raising questions in the legal community, while using Twitter to communicate what appears to be conflict of interest. Gasparino claims that Boies’ connections with Bankman-Fried (also known as SBF) give him enough reasons to be in a conflict. He also highlighted how close the lawyer is with James Fox-Miller, SBF’s uncle. He also claimed that his wife helped SBF with a well-known charity event, which was funded by FTX prior to the collapse of the exchange. This caused uncertainty for everyone affected. Any type of conflict of interest could be detrimental for creditors who are looking for a quick resolution to bankruptcy proceedings. Although calling out David Boies may not be very important, Sam Bankman-Fried appears to be seeking leniency from foreign regulators despite the alleged suffering that he caused the users of the insolvent cryptocurrency trading site. As previously mentioned, the 30-year-old tried to delay bankruptcy proceedings by transferring assets of the exchange to foreign authorities. These international regulators were expected to give him a more favorable treatment and perhaps give him back control of the trading platform. Although the bankruptcy court may not decide to take this action, the US Department of Justice will not want to create a precedent.
