Time Berners’ latest comments were published in the latest episode of CNBC’s Beyond The Valley podcast, which was published last Friday. Tim Berners stated that cryptocurrencies were only “speculative” when he was discussing the future web. He also said that cryptocurrencies are only “speculative” and compared them with the dot-com bubble, where internet companies managed to achieve crazy valuations while not having strong fundamental businesses.

CNBC interviewed the World Wide Web inventor, who said:
“It’s only speculation. That’s obviously dangerous. It’s only for those who enjoy gambling. Investing in certain items, which is purely speculation, isn’t where I want my time to be spent.

Berners-Lee said that digital currencies can only be used for remittances if they are immediately converted into fiat currency upon receipt.
